This will provide critical nourishment during the spring growing season and allow grasses to establish before the intense summer heat. If you are lucky enough to be able to harvest hay from your Colorado fields, a fertilizer application after the first harvesting of hay or straw can support subsequent cuttings. The soil will be depleted of nutrients and need a little help for the next cutting to grow tall and healthy. Adding fertilizer to the pasture again in the late fall can also help infuse nutrients back into the soil before winter hits, so the ground can settle properly in preparation for the new growth of spring.
